My Yoga journey started the first day I practiced. I walked off my mat and took note of the effects that it had on me. How it made my body sweaty and hot, but more than that was the sense of peace and contentment that I felt with the present moment. I rolled up my mat and realized that I could do anything, be anybody, and could share the peace and love with everyone. As my practice progressed, my body began to change for the better. I was more aware of my body. I was more awake. When I was more awake I could see the role I was playing in my relationships. I started to build better relationships. I wasn’t so reactive throughout my days and in times of stress. I have learned so much from yoga. It has taught me how to accept where you are in life. I completed a 200 hour hot yoga teacher training to start and then followed it with a 100 hour teacher training at Shanti School of Power Yoga. My skills were progressing. I started to really resonate with feeling empowered. I started to feel like I was shining. Just like Nelson Mandela said: “Who are we, not to shine?”. I started to understand and see even more. To this day my intention for my students is to have them leave feeling empowered by their own strength and power so they can shine their light on the world. I met Sid McNairy along my journey and I was immediately inspired by him. I attended one of his classes and left feeling a fire lit within me. He became a real mentor to me. I was drawn to his way of teaching. Reminding us to trust the process, be present, and hold ourselves accountable. Accountable for our dreams, our desires, and our goals. I continue to train with Sid and travel to attend his workshops. I attended his Empowerment and Beyond program in Nicaragua in 2011 and since then have completed two more of his Empowerment and Beyond programs. Over the last year my sister and I have opened our own yoga studio- Shakti. Our community of people have been inspiring and supportive. I have continued my training to grow as a yoga instructor and a person. I have taken level 1 with Baron Baptiste and am a level 2 candidate for next spring. Through my journey I continue to work hard to find more self- acceptance and power. I find the layers fall off and I can give myself a lovingness and more significantly give others this same love. I have found that the more I continue to empower myself, I can empower those around me. I know I will continue this work and other than that, that is all I know. I’m ready to take the next steps and although I’m not really sure what will come next, I am looking forward to the possibilities of the unknown. I’m ready for anything and I will carry a way of being that is based on love and connection. Namaste.

If you can imagine the ripple effect that you can see in water, I’d say that is essentially how you could explain my practice and life with yoga. I began practicing yoga in 2006. It didn’t take long till I started to see the effects of how the practice truly played into my life. I now practice everyday and I still find myself growing. I’ve become, and still become, more self aware and more aware of my truth. When I look back from where I was to where I am now, I realize that, for me, I was not living a good fulfilling life. I was not living the life I wanted to live. It was with this start of a yoga practice that I could not only see the life I wanted to make for myself, but have the confidence and faith to take the steps necessary to live that life.My next step in that journey was to become a yoga teacher. I received my 200 hour RYT with Sumit Banerjee. I continued to practice with him and teach. Soon enough, the awareness that I began to find interpersonally and on the mat started to spread into my life. I started to see the circles, as you would a stone dropped in the water, expand. Starting from the middle and touching far out places. I made a lot of change. Looking back and comparing, it’s as if I have had two bodies. One before I started to practice and one after. Not only did my body change, but I found my voice. I found it in a room of 50 plus people. It sounded confident with passion and drive. I found that with this voice I could serve others. I loved it.I recieved my 100 hr power yoga certification from Shanti school of yoga with Johnna Smith. This is a woman who stands in her power and teaches that way as well. A great inspiration. After her training, I really felt I was teaching from a deeper place from the core. Once again, the ripple effect started to come to my mind. Expanding and growing stronger with each challenge I faced. Throughout my experience with yoga, I have learned so much from many different teachers. Sid Mcnairy, Lindsay Lusignea, Gillian St. Clair, and Page Hart have made a huge impact on me. I fell in love with Power yoga because it keeps me strong healthy, grounded, and it is always challenging. I feel now I am living the life I love. Yoga, prayer, time with loved ones and meditation are my tools for happiness and health. My goals are to find peace in any situation, hold a space at our studio for love, and to see the power that lives within each of us to realize our dreams and life’s purpose.

Hang Zen: A Transformational Costa Rica Yoga Adventure

w/ Kristin Quinn, 200RYT
February 9-16, 2014
$1495.00 “Early-Bird Discounted Price!” (Until November 1st)

Hang Zen: A Transformational Costa Rica Yoga Adventure

For thousands of years, man has had an intuitive sense of the need to step away to reset.  The transformational value of spending time in nature is undeniable.  Different surroundings, new adventures, time set aside just for reflection and fun in a beautiful, natural environment, can powerfully reduce stress and the effects of aging, helping us to feel centered again, stimulate youthfulness, and enable us to live at our greatest potential.  It can be both a remembering and a new discovery, a recharging of the self.  In a place so breath-taking and beautiful, so far away from our ordinary routines, we can more easily experience healing on a much deeper level, so much so, that it can profoundly change us forever.  This is my wish for you.

Come enjoy a week of unhurried relaxation and fun adventure in one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.  Awaken your senses like never before and leave deeply, profoundly refreshed. Here you have the opportunity to connect with a culture that breathes peacefulness and encourages enjoyment of each beautiful moment, every day a gift. You will be in awe of the beauty that surrounds you, the sand, the sea, and beautiful flowers and nature around you inspire you to relax and receive, feeling fully alive, in tune with yourself, and in tune with the nature.

To enhance this experience of unhurried relaxation and fun, there will be personal guides with the skill to help you to relax deeper, to feel more free and open, and to help you achieve lasting peace and serenity.  I am excited to be a part of leading the yoga portion of this week long adventure.
Before your chosen adventures each day,  I will guide you in therapeutic healing practices that enhance your ability to feel grounded, centered, and reconnected with your body, mind, and spirit.  We will practice the art of letting go, awaking energy and strength, and regaining ease, mobility, and flow.  Learn how to feel and connect to your practice and unite your body, mind, and breath.  Choose from a gentle flow or a more vigorous power yoga session in the open air studio on site, right on the beach amidst the palms. Fine for beginners to yoga or any level.  If you are experiencing any limitation or injury, I will provide modifications for you and also offer private sessions if desired.

In the evening I will offer sessions to enhance your ability to relax and unwind from the day.  Learn the art of stretching and relaxation varying sessions that blend movements from therapeutic style Viniyoga, deep, slow Yin style, and, Yoga Nidra, the deepest relaxation technique, to profoundly soothe body , mind, and spirit.  A special class will also be offered allowing you to learn and experience the art of meditation.   You are welcome to take any or all of the sessions, or just rest feeling the tropical breezes in a hammock.

I would be honored to serve you and would love for you to feel the nourishment and joy in this fun, heart-filled, unforgettable experience that will inspire a deeper, profound well-being that will leave you in the presence of a renewed, grateful spirit and an awakening that will stay with you long after in your heart.

After completing a year-long certification in therapeutic style yoga in 2007 with Silver Lotus Yoga in Lewes, DE, Kristin has taught over 1,000 classes in various studios in the Baltimore area.  She is known as one of the most effective therapeutic instructors in the area.  She has worked privately with clients that have suffered from debilitating and life-threatening disease, as well as those with serious injury that require special attention and has witnessed impressive healing.
Known for her soothing voice, clear and inspiring instruction, Kristin’s strong commitment to individual care has effectively assisted students in releasing deeply held tension in body and mind. She is also known for enhancing student ability to take the lessons off of the mat to create a deeper, lasting satisfaction in all that they do.  See student comments here: http://www.oceancityyoga.com/StudentComments.html
In the summer months Kristin holds widely popular and memorable outdoor yoga experiences on the beach in Ocean City, MD.  These classes by the ocean provide meaningful, effective, and fun experiences to vacationers. They blend different styles of yoga in beautiful settings, from sunrise gentle flow on the beach, to rooftop power yoga, stand up paddling yoga, and yin deep stretch/meditation at sunset.  Students report that the classes are a highlight of their vacation, making it easier to relax and truly appreciate the beauty around them, leaving with a deeper sense of gratitude, and in the presence of the miracle of their life.
Kristin’s classes have been influenced by the teaching of Krishnamacharya (focus on the individual), in conjunction with Gary Kraftsow’s groundbreaking modern therapeutic Viniyoga (backcare yoga studies with NIH), and Paul Grilley’s yin style ( based on Chinese medicine/accupressure technique).  She has also attended workshops with Bryan Kest (power yoga) and Paulie Zink (martial arts master and creator of yin yoga style).  Kristin is currently enrolled in the Yoga Rx Program in the Fall at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA, one of the first college programs of its type.

Las Olas Bhakti Yoga RetreatOlas means wave {weyv} noun

1.a disturbance on the surface of a liquid body in the form of a moving ridge or swell.
These human bodies we wear experience swells and disturbances on the surface, but deeper within there is a calm place. It might be just under the surface or fathoms deep, but it is there and its calm potency can be called upon by those who foster awareness and stillness.
Join Yoginis Kristin Luna Ray + Rachel Roberts as they guide healing asana, meditation + mantra, accompanied by the beautiful inspiration of musician Joshua Canter. This week-long retreat, held on the beaches of Costa Rica, will allow you to tap into that calm potential that dwells in the essence of you. Daily asana and bhakti yoga practices will give you the tools to return home, more able to observe the swells of emotions, more capable of riding them out and more excited about enjoying the fluctuations of this lifetime. Guided meditations will help you develop a sadhana (personal practice) that will serve as a daily reminder that this is the calm, clear version of you, you choose to foster moving forward.
From this beachside retreat, the serenade of las olas will be a constant mantra for transformation and restoration. Optional surfing classes will help you tangibly feel that you can float above the chaos and surrender to it at the same time. Ceremony steeped in local tradition will allow you to experience the culture and beauty of the indigenous people of the Nicoya Peninsula and traveling in unison to Playa Santa Teresa along with a midweek excursion will allow you to see a wide swath of this amazing country.
This week will transform, entertain, and rejuvenate!
